Rochas Okorocha set to sue INEC for withholding his certificate of return

The Governor of Imo state, Rochas Okorochas, has recorded a suit against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) under the watchful eye of the Federal High Court in Abuja, due to the fact that INEC has blatantly refused to issue him a certificate of return as the senator elected for Imo state senatorial west district.

INEC would not issue him the authentication of return after the Returning Officer for the February 23rd elections, Professor Francis Ibeawuchi, said he declared Okorocha as the victor of the senatorial race “under coercion”.

The suit was documented by Kehinde Ogunwumiju (SAN), Okorocha made the electoral commission the sole litigant in the suit.

Nonetheless, Justice Taiwo, the directing judge, by the understanding of the insight engaged with the case, made a request allowing Jones Onyeriri, the competitor of the Peoples Democratic Party in the race and Senator Osita Izunaso of the All Progressives Grand Alliance to be joined at the second and third litigants. The two applicants of alternate gatherings were spoken to by their legal advisors: Nwafor Orizu for Izunaso, Emeka Etiaba (SAN) for Onyeriri. INEC was spoken to by Mrs. Wendy Kuku.

Mr. Taiwo requested the litigants to document and trade their procedures within a set period of 10 days, while the offended party’s advice was given three days to react to them.

The case was deferred until April 5.
