The Workers in Oyo State under the umbrella of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Friday morning, has began an indefinite strike action.
Comrade Bayo Titlola-Sodo, who is the Chairman of the NLC in oyo state revealed that the strike declared is in solidarity with primary school teachers who had been on strike since Monday.
The strike by the primary school teachers, was made known by the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Samson Adedoyin, due to nonpayment of salaries and other entitlement of primary schools teachers in the state on Monday.
Comrade Samsson Adedoyin, further revealed that the strike became necessary due to the inability of the state government to cope with the demands of the union. The primary teachers had last week, issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the state government to settle the backlogs of salaries it owed its members.
According to sources, the Nigerian Labour congress has concluded not to call off the strike until the federal government is ready to meet its long awaited demand.
