Icewear Vezzo is an American rapper and musician who rose to the fame after the release of his mixtape called The Clarity. Vezzo stands out among other well-known stars from Detroit, such as Eminem and Big Sean. Although, he is inspired by these musicians, Vezzo is an act of his own. Music is a passion that runs in the family and some of his family members make up the rap group, the Green Guyz.

Early Life

Vezzo was born on October 31, 1989 in Detroit, Michigan. The identity of his parents is unknown but Vezzo has spoken about his hometown on multiple occasions. In an interview with the Metro Times, Vezzo revealed that his mother married his stepfather while his was in prison. Since he could not leave the state of Michigan, they moved to Detroit after his stepfather finished his six and a half year long sentence.

Vezzo studied at Romulus Senior High School, and then enrolled at University of Detroit Mercy for his graduation. It is unknown what he studied at the university.

In a video for No Jumper, Vezzo revealed that he only lived in a block away from the famous rapper Eminem. He also spoke about how seeing Eminem’s success as a rapper inspired him to create his own music.

While Vezzo was looking for ways to earn money, he also took an interest in music. At the age of twelve, Vezzo began writing his own songs. He also revealed that he used to sell drugs in his teens to earn money, namely marijuana. By the age of sixteen, Vezzo had started calling himself “Young Vez” and was working on his rap career while managing his street life.


In 2012, Vezzo began his music career by releasing his debut mixtape titled The Clarity. He released his second mixtape called The Clarity 2 which contains one of his most popular songs, Money Phone in 2013. In September 2015, Vezzo was spotted handing a .45-caliber loaded Glock to someone near the east side gas station. Detroit police officers arrested Vezzo due to possession of a firearm.

His music career was abruptly disrupted since he had to serve his sentence. Vezzo was sentenced to two years in prison, but he served eighteen months. After being released from prison, he came out with a new album titled Price Goin’ Up in 2017. In 2018, Vezzo was signed with Motown Records, one of the biggest labels to originate in Detroit, Vezzo’s hometown.

After signing with Motown Records, Vezzo now has nearly twenty projects to his name. He has collaborated with renowned musicians in his genre, such as Meg Thee Stallion, Babyface Ray, and Future. His song Up The Scoe (2021) has 20 million views on YouTube.

Vezzo’s most recent album is called Rich Off Pints 2 and was released in 2021. Vezzo is also working on his own record label called Iced Up Records.

Other than music, Vezzo opened up his own restaurant called Chicken Talk in 2015. It was a carry-out chicken wings restaurant that closed when Vezzo planned to prison. He plans to reopen the restaurant, as well as explore other entrepreneurial opportunities.

Vezzo is married to Kiara Marie, who he met in high school. The pair tied the knot in 2016 and have two children together. Their daughter’s name is Navy Smith and their son is called Vito Smith. Not much is known about Vezzo’s personal life other than his marital status and children.

In 2018, Vezzo spoke to the Metro Times about how he went to prison right after getting married and two months before becoming a father. Becoming a first-time father away from his child helped Vezzo realize that he should focus more on his music rather than his street life.
