The Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), an International Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) says no less than 150 children influenced with lead poison in Zamfara are yet to receive treatment.

Dr. Simba Tirima, Deputy Head of Mission, MSF in Nigeria, revealed this to  Newsmen on Sunday in Abuja. In 2010, an exceptional episode of lead poison was found in Zamfara, in which no less than 400 children died. Eight years since the flare-up of the lead poison, MSF said that no less than 150 children are yet to be attended to.

As indicated by Tirima, MSF is financing the treatment of the influenced children while the Federal and state governments are working together with MSF to guarantee more children are not presented to lead poison in all the influenced towns.

The MSF supervisor said that, in any case, uncertainty in the state had as of late denied the organization from overseeing satisfactory treatment to the influenced children.

“We have no less than 150 children in our treatment program however because of instability in Zamfara, we have not had the capacity to visit a portion of the towns where our patients are,” he said. Tirima said that MSF had ceased its treatment program for children influenced with lead poison in Niger in October 2018.The MSF agent head of mission said that just 10 children were left on its treatment program in Niger and they had been given over to the state government.
